Petunia’s Pies & Pastries Expands Savory Menu
The downtown bakery debuts new gluten-free, vegan lunch items from lasagna to pot pie.
While many local eateries graciously accommodate—even celebrate—special diets, Portlanders with multiple food aversions may still struggle to find a quick lunch downtown. Luckily for the allergen-prone among us, Petunia’s Pies and Pastries is rolling out a newly expanded savory menu of 100% gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, meat-free lunch items.
The bakery, which expanded from a beloved PSU farmers market booth to a full-blown brick-and-mortar less than a year ago, uses plant-based products and gluten-free grains to wow customers with decadent desserts—think coconut dulce de leche cake and chocolate chip sandwich cookies filled with bourbon espresso hazelnut buttercream. But even Petunia’s most dedicated diners may not have discovered the equally scrumptious savory menu. To remedy this oversight, we thoughtfully sampled every dish on the recently expanded menu.
From spinach lasagna with hazelnut ricotta to gluten-free biscuits with meat-free gravy, these lunch items are at once comfortingly familiar and completely revolutionary. Click through our slide show to discover delectable dishes, and the secret ingredients behind them.
